Professional Background

Karin holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Master of Taxation. She is admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the High Court of Australia. She is also a member of the Law Society of New South Wales and an Associate of the Taxation Institute of Australia.

After working as an in house corporate lawyer with AMP Investments in the fundraising and property trust areas, Karin joined Peter McCrohon to establish their own firm in September 1991. On 1 September 2015, Karin and Peter joined forces with Tony Wilkes, CPA, to establish the CharterLaw Professional Group. CharterLaw Legal Pty Ltd and CharterLaw Accounting Pty Ltd are wholly owned subsidiaries of CharterLaw Professional Services Pty Limited.

Current Practice

Karin primarily practises in the property law area (commercial, industrial, retail and residential) and has substantial experience in property developments generally including strata title developments and land subdivisions. Karin has extensive leasing experience in the commercial and retail property market segments including the preparation and negotiation of commercial and retail leases and licence arrangements.

Karin’s tax qualifications means that she is able to advise clients on the appropriate income tax structure for property transactions, including a discretionary, a hybrid or a unit trust structure to ensure the client is structured in a tax effective manner. Karin also advises commercial clients on GST issues arising with property transactions, as well as associated stamp duty and land tax issues.

Karin’s areas of practice include advising clients on the financing of property, development transactions and general commercial and business advisory with a particular focus on private client needs, estate planning, wealth creation and asset protection.
