Professional Background

Austin holds a Bachelor of Commerce, Masters of Laws and Masters of Taxation. He was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in February 1997. Austin is also a member of the Law Society of New South Wales, CPA Australia and is a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) with The Taxation Institute of Australia.

Prior to embarking on a legal career, Austin worked as a commercial Accountant for several years which included completion of the CPA program to qualify as a certified practising accountant (CPA). Austin has continued his membership of CPA Australia including his ongoing CPA training.

From 1997 Austin has been practising as a lawyer commencing his legal career with a Commonwealth statutory body before moving into private practice. Austin has worked for several small to medium sized firms in the city of Sydney as well as in a suburban firm and in legal firms in a regional centre before establishing his own practice which he ran for 5 years. During that time Austin has dealt with a variety a commercial matters involving transactional work, planning and advisory work and assisted his clients in commercial negotiations.

Current Practice

At CharterLaw Legal, Austin practices in the areas of commercial, corporate, restructuring, taxation, estate planning and disputed estates. He is also a Chartered Tax Adviser with the Taxation Institute of Australia.

Austin’s clients at CharterLaw Legal have included a manufacturer and distributor internationally in the oral health industry, an airline services operator whose business is carried on in the South East Asian market, various retail and manufacturing clients in the SME market and high net worth individuals seeking business and succession planning and taxation advice.

Austin also has substantial experience in the area of disputed wills and Family Provision Act claims under Chapter 3 of the Succession Act 2006 (NSW) having acted for both claimants and executors.

With a solid background in commerce and accounting giving him an understanding of the broad and sometimes acute financial issues confronting businesses in a highly regulated environment, and his legal skills, Austin is well prepared to assist and guide clients through their commercial matters in achieving practical and workable outcomes.
